Yesterday Kari, Murphy, and I started our road trip to kick off my bike tour. The past weekend was spent celebrating my sister’s birthday in Davenport – visiting friends and family that I don’t get to see nearly enough.
Leaving late afternoon on Monday, the goal was to make it to the Indiana Dunes before sunset. We made it with about 30 mins to spare. Lake Michigan accented by the skyline of Chicago did not disappoint!
We did a short hike around the dunes after sunset then continued on through the night to Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland Ohio arriving around 3 AM. After a quick 3 hour nap in the back of the Subaru we were up hiking to see the first of two waterfalls today – Brandywine Falls.
It was a slightly wet five-mile round trip hike due to the rain we experienced as we turned back from the falls. From there we drove another 3-4 hours to Niagara Falls!
We had quite an eventful arrival at Niagara. Apparently Murphy wanted to stretch his legs and he got loose! To our relief he came back shortly after, but to our horror, he brought us a partially live squirrel in his mouth! May he rest in peace. Condolences to his squirrel friends and family.
We walked down to the falls and basked in their glory.
Then continued on to enjoy some hiking in the neighboring parks. The quick afternoon hike turned into a unexpectedly long venture, but the payout was absolutely worth it!
By the time we got back to the car it felt like our legs wound snap. We re-energized with some authentic Buffalo wings from Duff’s Famous Wings.
Currently we’re on our way to the Adirondack Mountains to bag some peaks. Below is a map of our road trip finishing up in Yorktown by this Friday!
